My Philosophy
In my classroom, learning is driven by student-guided research after a first introduction to the content. I prioritize creating assignments that align with students’ interests and incorporate opportunities for choice-based projects. This approach fosters an environment where students are encouraged to express themselves, explore their potential, and develop their skills.
Recognizing that students have diverse learning strategies, I focus on three key modalities: visual, verbal, and kinesthetic learning. Each unit integrates these strategies to cater to the variety of learners in the classroom. I believe that when students connect the subject matter to their personal interests, they are more likely to engage with and absorb the material effectively.
I hold elevated expectations for my students, pushing them to exceed their own perceived limitations. My approach emphasizes consistency, policy, and the development of positive learning habits that students can carry beyond my classroom. I actively motivate and encourage students to exceed the basic requirements of assignments, fostering an environment where they are empowered to take ownership of their learning. I assess students’ abilities and tailor my guidance to their interests and understanding, enhancing their responsiveness to motivation and feedback. My goal is for students to internalize the importance of perseverance, research, practice, and resilience.
As a result of my teaching practices, I aim for students to cultivate proactive habits and carry the mindset developed in my classroom beyond their school years. Each lesson is designed to incorporate problem-solving and time-management skills, which are reinforced through guided prompts. Through this process, students learn to approach challenges with patience, understanding that time is a valuable resource to be respected. My teaching philosophy ensures that students succeed in their art projects and gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
I measure student success by their growing independence and ability to reflect on their progress. Early on, I set clear expectations and learning targets, empowering students to track and prove their understanding. One of my personal goals is to continuously learn more about my students, accommodating their individual needs to enhance their success in the classroom while ensuring they feel seen and safe. I actively seek feedback from my colleagues, as I believe in the power of collaboration and continuous improvement. While I value independence and self-confidence, I am also open to seeking help, when necessary, always striving to grow as an educator.
